Iranian Elections: Context

June 12, 2009

in World

The polls closed a few hours ago and I’m setting aside my usual aversion to Press TV to watch their coverage. In the meantime here are some articles that provide a bit of background.

Foreign Policy provides a good explanation of the general context of the election.

The BBC outlines the constitutional structure of the Islamic Republic.

The Wall Street Journal looks at the unprecedented importance of women in these elections.

Wired’s Danger Room covers the social media angle.

Finally, Michael Singh looks at the potential implications of the results. (H/T: The Daily Dish)
